Remarks on the stability of Cartesian PMLs in corners
This work is a contribution to the understanding of the question of stability of Perfectly Matched Layers (PMLs) in corners, at continuous and discrete levels. First, stability results are presented for the Cartesian PMLs associated to a general first-order hyperbolic system. Then, in the context of the pressurevelocity formulation of the acoustic wave propagation, an unsplit PML formulation is...
متن کاملStability Analysis of Optimal Control Problems with a Second-Order State Constraint
This paper gives stability results for nonlinear optimal control problems subject to a regular state constraint of second-order. The strengthened Legendre-Clebsch condition is assumed to hold, and no assumption on the structure of the contact set is made. Under a weak second-order sufficient condition (taking into account the active constraints), we show that the solutions are Lipschitz continu...
متن کاملPerfectly Matched Layers in Negative Index Metamaterials and Plasmas
This work deals with the stability of Perfectly Matched Layers (PMLs). The first part is a survey of previous results about the classical PMLs in non-dispersive media (construction and necessary condition of stability). The second part concerns some extensions of these results. We give a new necessary criterion of stability valid for a large class of dispersive models and for more general PMLs ...
متن کاملStability and dispersion analysis of improved time discretization for simply supported prestressed Timoshenko systems. Application to the stiff piano string
We study the implicit time discretization of piano strings governing equations within the Timoshenko prestressed beam model. Such model features two different waves, namely the flexural and shear waves, that propagate with very different velocities. We present a novel implicit time discretization that reduces the numerical dispersion while allowing the use of a large time step in the numerical ...
متن کاملLevel-Set method and stability condition for curvature-driven flows
We consider models for the simulation of curvature-driven incompressible bifluid flows, where the surface tension term is discretized explicitly. From this formulation a numerical stability condition arises for which we present a new theoretical estimation for low and medium Reynolds numbers. We illustrate our analysis with numerical simulations of microfluidic flows using Level Set method. Fin...
